Course Description: MAR/BIO 338
This is a field-based course that introduces students to the planktonic organisms of the coastal and open ocean environment. Through a combination of lectures and “hands on” laboratory and field investigations, students will learn about the behavior of plankton, their adaptations to their specific marine environment, and factors that control the distribution and abundance of planktonic organisms. This is primarily a field course, and emphasis will be on laboratory and field work in the estuarine, nearshore, and offshore waters in the vicinity of Chincoteague Inlet.
