"The Virginia Institute of Marine Science has as its missionresearch education, and advisory service to support the needsof the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Nation. The School of Marine Science, established within the Virginia Institute ofMarine Science, has as its mission higher education and related research normally associated with degree programs at institutionsof higher learning in this country. Specific matters relating to these missions are defined in the Code of Virginia, in the FacultyHandbook of the College of William and Mary, and in the Bylawsof the Board of Visitors of the College of William and Mary."
