The USC Wrigley Institute for Environmental Studies is seeking a Program Assistant to serve as their Education/Laboratory Assistant at the USC Wrigley Marine Science Center on Catalina Island.

Job description: The Education/Lab Assistant is a full-time position at the Wrigley Marine Science Center on Catalina Island (near the town of Two Harbors). Working closely with the Director of Education and the Laboratory Manager, the Assistant will develop and implement educational and outreach programs for people of all ages and be an integral part of the science support team, particularly with respect to the Institute�s Interpretive Center.

Specific job duties:

Schedule and lead education groups in the field and in the classroom at the Wrigley Marine Science Center

Work with Education Staff and researchers to develop new programs

Coordinate graduate and undergraduate student education and outreach efforts

Maintain inventory for education program supplies (including waterfront gear)

Assist with maintenance and growth of Interpretive Center

Provide basic laboratory and research support

Qualifications:

Bachelor�s degree in science, education or environmental studies

Experience developing and teaching classes to diverse audiences

Previous lab safety training preferred

Ability to recognize potential lab hazards and take appropriate actions

Knowledge of local environment (marine and/or terrestrial) preferred

Self-motivated and strong organizational skills

Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint (or equivalent)
Excellent written and oral communication skills

Hours: Full time. Some weekend and evening hours required.

Work location: Wrigley Marine Science Center, Catalina Island, CA. This position requires living on Catalina.
