Research Project Coordinator

Position Description: The Marine Ecotoxicology Lab at the Marine Environmental Sciences Consortium is seeking a motivated individual as Project Coordinator for a 5-year program international research collaborative Partnerships in International Research and Education (PIRE) funded by the NSF.

The project entitled: PIRE: Advancing Global Strategies and Understanding on the Origin of Ciguatera Fish Poisoning in Tropical Oceans, is led by Dr. Alison Robertson and is a global research and education project that includes scientists from around the U.S., Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, Cuba, Hong Kong and Norway.

Key Responsibilities -The primary function of the Project Coordinator will be to support the daily administration and management of the project under the direction of the principal investigator.
• Provide administrative support as needed for grant proposal development, IACUC protocol submission and reporting; project assessment to include initiating and supporting the creation of biannual progress reports; and communication with collaborating investigators to obtain relevant required information.
• Coordination, scheduling and communication of meetings, workshops, conferences and courses including travel arrangement (local, national, international) for project students and scientists, and assist with purchasing of supplies and equipment.
• Provide project support including research and fact checking; presentation preparation and delivery; assisting and responding to student/collaborator/public questions/concerns; updating and communicating with internal and external entities as needed.
• Assistance in development of original content (photos, video, maps, text) for project website and social media channels to keep project participants engaged and updated; working with internal experts to ensure content is accurate and professional.
• Collaboration with other investigators/contractors to produce multimedia assets for communication of project science goals and educational programs.
• Support of data management requirements including metadata creation, database management, and reporting.
Qualifications, Skills & Expected Competencies
• A minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience in a project administrator/coordinator/management role with success in managing and performing projects in a multi-tasking environment.
• Highly organized with proven ability to work both independently and as a team, as well as experience and composure in dealing with tight deadlines.
• Strong, mature, and professional inter-personal communication skills and demonstrated superior verbal and written skills, including presentation of information in front of large and diverse groups.
• Willingness and flexibility to travel out of state and internationally in support of project when needed
• Strong interest in or experience with marine sciences preferred, particularly with a M.S. or Ph.D. in the life sciences. However, this is an administrative/coordinator position so no research experience or duties will be required as part of this position.
• Proficiency with spreadsheets, database platforms, Adobe Creative suite, and basic mapping (e.g., ArcGIS) will be highly regarded
• Other positive considerations include: research training, publication (or other proof of writing ability), knowledge and experience with grant related processes; proficiency with web platforms, social media and scheduling software.

Additional Details: This position may be part or full-time depending on the candidate, experience, competency and time management. The location of the position will be the Dauphin Island Sea Lab (DISL), Dauphin Island, AL with some travel to the University of South Alabama as needed. Salary will be commensurate with experience and schedule.

The position will report directly to the Project Director and Principal Investigator, Dr. Alison Robertson.
